Mphmi Plant Muntingia calabura commonly Known as Jamaica Cherry, Panama Cherry, Strawberry tree, Jam tree, Cotton Candy berry, is a plant of tropical America. It is very fast-growing small to medium tree. The leaves are evergreen, alternate long-pointed at the apex. Flowers resemble strawberry bloom, hence the common name, Strawberry tree. Fruits are soft, juicy pulp, with very sweet, musky, somewhat fig-like flavor, filled with exceedingly minute, contain hundreds of tiny seeds. The tree has the reputation of thriving with no care in poor soils. It is drought-resistant but not salt-tolerant. Wherever it grows, fruits are borne nearly all year
The soil should be well drained and fertile rich in oragnic content.
Do not over-water the plant especially when pot does not have drainage holes.
Poke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture. Water when topsoil (3-4 inches) feels dry to touch. Water thoroughly in the summer and reduce watering in winter and rainy season.
